Apatura is delighted to announce the appointment of Giles Hanglin as its new CEO. Giles joins at an exciting time, as Apatura looks to progress its 10 GW pipeline of BESS projects in the UK into commercial operation.

Learn more about our new CEO

Giles has 15 years of experience in the renewable energy and storage industry. Previously Director at Savills, he helped set up and lead the rollout of solar rooftop investment for private and institutional clients. More recently, he was CEO and co-founder at Cambridge Power, who developed one of the leading distribution connected battery storage portfolios in Great Britain, and structured joint ventures with SMS Plc and with Brookfield Renewables.

Giles brings with him a wealth of experience in helping projects, through development and assembling teams to deliver construction capability that will help take the Apatura portfolio to its full potential.

Adrian Hill, majority owner of Apatura, is excited at what’s to come from working with Giles, saying, “This is a significant moment for the future of Apatura, as we move from being a development business into the construction and operation of our significant battery pipeline. Giles’ experience will benefit us greatly as we look ahead and start to realise the value of this portfolio.”

Giles himself is keen to see how Apatura can support the UK in meeting its NetZero targets through its projects moving forwards, explaining, “This is a very exciting company to join at a time where their portfolio looks to compliment the needs of NGESO in Scotland perfectly.

“To date, Apatura has quietly got on and amassed one of the most significant storage portfolios in the UK, but now is the time to start to deliver that to commercial operation – and play a key role for the UK in meeting its NetZero targets with tangible and deliverable projects.”

Apatura’s goals for the energy industry

Apatura has created an enviable pipeline of UK projects, with over 10 GW of grid connections secured for storage projects. The majority of these are based in Scotland, which is a focus area for National Grid ESO – as recently set out in their Beyond 2030 report, showing the importance of storage to assist in realising the full potential of Scottish wind. Committed to championing the adoption of renewable resources as the driving force behind a cleaner and more sustainable future, the appointment of a new CEO is a pivotal step in helping Apatura achieve its ambitious goals.

Apatura is thrilled to have Giles on board and excited to see how his support and leadership develops the existing and future capabilities of the team. Find out more about working with us, whether you’re a landowner or looking for a career change, or get in touch if you have any questions.
